Who Qualifies?
The Michigan Home Energy Rebates (MiHER) program is open to both homeowners and renters across the state. Eligibility is primarily determined by household income relative to the Area Median Income (AMI) for your county
Income-Based Eligibility:
Enhanced Rebates: Households earning 80% or less of the AMI may qualify for rebates covering up to 100% of project costs, with maximum rebates up to $20,000 for whole-home energy efficiency upgrades (HER) and $14,000 for electrification and appliance upgrades (HEAR).
Standard Rebates: Households earning between 81% and 150% of the AMI may qualify for rebates covering up to 50% of project costs, subject to the same maximum rebate amounts.
Eligible Property Types
MiHER rebates are available to both homeowners and renters across Michigan. Eligible property types include:
Single-Family Homes: Full rebate coverage is available for qualifying improvements in detached homes, including rentals.
Multi-Family Units: Properties with multiple dwelling units can qualify on a per-unit basis. Rebates may include:
Up to $8,000 per unit for energy efficiency upgrades
Up to $14,000 per unit for appliance and electrification improvements
Rental Properties: Renters are eligible based on household income, but landlords must initiate the project and work with an approved contractor like Lakeside
